Tooi Ongaku

Distant Music

Romaji Lyrics English Translation

Sotto mimi wo sumashite tooi tooi ongaku
Kimi no chiisana mune ni todoku hazu
Umi wa michite hiite nami wa fuigo no you ni
Suzushii ongaku wo machi ni okoru

Mimi wo katamukete hoshi no utau melody
Afureru oto no naka tada hitotsu erande

Amaoto kusa no ikizukai
Kaze no guitar kisetsu no medley
Kikoenai dynamo ni kakikesare
Hito wa naze uta wo tebanashita no

Sotto mimi wo sumashite tooi tooi ongaku
Kimi no kawaita mune ni todoku hazu
Mori wa midori no ryoute ni yotsuyu wo uketomete
Bansan no inori wo utatteru yo

Mimi wo katamukete hoshi no utau melody
Afureru oto no naka tada hitotsu erande

Kirameku mushi-tachi no haoto
Tori no uta asatsuyu no shizuku
Kikoenai dynamo ni kakikesare
Hito wa naze uta wo wasureta no

Biosphere, kimi no inochi koso ga
Biosphere, subarashii gakki dakara
Biosphere, uta wo kanadete
Biosphere, tori-tachi wo manete
Biosphere, rhythm wo uketomete
Biosphere, gojuuoku no chorus

Strain your ears, and you’ll hear the distant music
As it reaches all Earth’s creatures, big or small
The tide rises and falls, like the sea’s gentle breath
Its music flooding through the streets

Just open your mind to the melodies of the Earth
And find a sound to love from its orchestra

The falling rain, the rustle of the grass
The wind a guitar, playing the seasons’ medley
But now they’re all drowned out by the machines
Why have we forsaken our music?

Strain your ears, and you’ll hear the distant music
As it reaches us all, no matter how we neglect it
The night dew is caught in the forest’s green caress
As it offers a thankful prayer to the skies

Just open your mind to the melodies of the Earth
And find a sound to love from its orchestra

The buzz of the insects, sparkling in the light
The birdsong set to the drip of the morning dew
But now they’re all drowned out by the machines
Why have we forgotten our music?

Biosphere, the life that you sustain
Biosphere, provides the greatest instruments of all
Biosphere, so play us your music
Biosphere, as the birds would every day
Biosphere, and let us capture your rhythm
Biosphere, with a chorus five-billionfold.

Original version by Zabadak | Idolmaster cover version

So I was trying to find a song to get the one I had stuck in my head out of my head, and I settled on this. It might be hippy music, but it is damn good hippy music, alright.

So I thought I’d translate it. It’s not my usual fare, and it was interesting to try and word naturally.

Don’t judge me.

One TL note: This is a fairly old song originally, as you may be able to tell from it pegging the world’s population at a mere five billion. The third line actually makes a comparison between the tides and a pair of bellows, but I thought that was super outdated by modern standards, and thought a good old pair of lungs would serve the metaphor a lot better to us modern folks. Sorry for localizing,  I guess!
